What is EMR/EHR Migration?

Electronic medical records (EMR) are a digital version of the paper charts in the clinician’s office. An EMR contains the medical and treatment history of the patients in one practice. EMRs have advantages over paper records.

Data migration is simply the movement of information from one system or technology to another. It entails data profiling, cleansing and validation to ensure that the transfer of information was performed in an accurate and quality way.

How to plan for a migration

A good strategic migration plan not only takes into consideration a needs assessment, but also a bird’s-eye view of all relevant processes—technological, clinical, human resources, operations and policies, communications—and develops an implementation pathway that clearly identifies strengths and weaknesses.
